Henry Smith (ヘンリー・スミス Henrii Sumisu?) is an English traveler who resided with the Eihon family. He continued to travel throughout Central Asia with Ali as his guide. Throughout his journey he will visit a new place and meet new residents of the town recording their experiences and lives than continue on to the next town or village.
Appearance[]
Henry Smith Is an Englishmen anthropologist. Henry has blond short hair with glasses and Englishmen clothes. Later in the series when trouble arises due to his appearance Ali tells him to change clothes and to say that he is Russian Doctor. He changes to wearing vertical pattern robes with a satchel crossbody and a ushanka hat.
Personality[]
Henry is a very curious and studious man. His curiosity oftentimes gets the better of him and gets him into situations he would otherwise not find himself in. As a child, Henry preferred to stay inside and read books about adventures in far-away lands rather than going outside to play. Interestingly enough, he has now grown into quite a sturdy and adventurous man, putting his life in danger for the sake of "taking pictures" and the like. Smith is kind and courteous to all the people he meets in his journey no matter how different they are from him, and is always eager to learn from them. He is also quite knowledgeable of many things, and is able to pass as a doctor at one point in his travels, earning the respect and enthusiasm of the villagers.

Relationships[]
Ali
Ali is Henry Smith's guide as he goes tries to reach Ankara. He spends his entire time in the story leading and following Smith around. They have a friendly relationship and give each other advice on various things. He calls Smith "Boss." Ali sometimes acts as Smith's translator. He says about him, "Henry's a scatterbrain, but he's a good guy." He tells Smith he will name one of his future children after him.
Talas
Smith meets Talas in a town on his way to Ankara. He spends a few days with her and her mother-in-law and gets to know her during that time. Talas's mother-in-law asks him to take her with him, and Smith promises to return for her in the future. After he leaves, Talas realizes she loves him and goes in search for him. When she finds him in Ankara, they decide to marry and ultimately travels with him to England.
Hawkings
Hawkings is Smith's childhood friend and classmate/superior. Smith travels to Ankara on the basis that Hawkings is waiting there for him. Hawkings sometimes sends letters to Smith's family in his place, telling them he promises he will come back home safely. When Smith reaches Ankara, he stays in Hawkings's home. During his stay, he gives Smith a camera.
