Aigul, originally from the Yandaq tribe, becomes part of the Halgals through her marriage to Baimat.

Plot[]

Aigul participates in the horse race for the Halgal men to prove they are strong enough to marry a woman of the Jandiq clan. During the race, Baimat notices Aigul because she has concealed her face.

After Azel wins the challenge and requests that Baimat and Joruk also be allowed to choose brides from the Jandiq, Baimat inquires after Aigul. Jahan, the chief of the Jandiq clan, reveals that Aigul was brought back to the clan after divorcing her first husband. Jahan describes Aigul's first husband as "worthless trash" and had been violent to her, and blames her parents for choosing the wrong man for Aigul to marry. Aigul had been too sweet-natured to oppose him, and ended up with her face badly scarred after her first husband threw boiling stew at her.

Baimat chooses Aigul as his bride, though Jahan only consents if Baimat vows never to be violent to Aigul. Baimat agrees to the condition, and Aigul accepts the match. On their wedding night, Aigul expresses gratitude towards Baimat for his kindness, while Baimat tells her that her eyes are like lakes and swears that he will never hurt her.
